An introduction to CALCcommittee members

At it's Annual General Meeting held on March 18th, 2004, Cllr Ron Daniel retired as Chairman of the Cornwall Association of Local Councils. As a mark of respect for all of Cllr Daniel's work on behalf of parish and town councils in Cornwall, the Association elected him as an honorary Life Vice President.

The Association also acknowledged the tireless work of Cllr Edgar Rowe by electing him as an Honorary Life Vice Chairman. Cllr Rowe and his family have been involved in local government in Cornwall for many years and in addition to his work as a member of St Stephen in Brannel P C, Edgar Rowe is also Clerk to two other councils.

The new Chairman of the Association is Cllr Graham Ford (Illogan P C) and Cllr John Beckett (St Minver Highlands P C) was elected as Vice Chairman.

CALC - Chairman: Cllr Graham Ford

Graham Ford was first elected as Local Councillor in Cornwall in 1985 when in March he became a founding Member of the revived Camborne Town Council and in July a founding Member of the renewed Illogan Parish Council.

Illogan and Camborne are contiguous administrative areas in West Cornwall. Graham is in his second two year term as Chairman of Illogan Parish Council.

Graham is a very keen advocate of both the 'Parish Movement' and of Local Councils and has always played an enthusiastic part in the Cornwall Association of Parish & Town Councils. He is in his second term of office as County vice-Chairman and is a deputy Member of the Council of the National Association of Local Councils.

Graham Ford is a Consultant for Development Trusts in the less advantaged parts of Cornwall and heavily involved in Regeneration work in the Camborne-Pool-Redruth area of North Kerrier district where he has been appointed as a Board Member of the C-P-R Leadership Trust on the sponsorship of the Prince's Foundation.

CALC - County Secretary: Des Robinson

Des Robinson is the County Secretary to Cornwall Association of Local Councils (CALC)and has been such since January, 1998, on his retirement from the Finance Department of Cornwall County Council. "I have worked in Local Government for the last 35 years mainly with the County Council but also with Truro City Council and Truro Rural District Council. For fourteen of these years I was the Parish Council Clerk for St. Newlyn East. Being a Cornishman I consider that I have been fortunate in that other than ten years in the Royal Navy the whole of my working life has been in Cornwall".

CALC - Caradon District Committee Secretary: Val Glastonbury

Born and brought up in Birmingham. Married Bill in 1969. Immigrated to Cornwall in 1972. 2 daughters both born here. Started clerking as a 'little part time job' I could do from home whilst the children were small. This was on 01/10/1983 to St. Germans Parish Council which, as a result of the Local Government Review, was abolished and replaced by 2 PCs 01/04/97 - St. Germans and Deviock. I clerked both for a year but found it too much and, reluctantly, gave up St. Germans.

I'm still clerking 17 years later but to the very active and pro-active Deviock PC only. I learn new things about my patch and the job all the time.

Deviock is a coastal Parish in SE Cornwall, which was created in 1997 and is situated about 5 miles along the coast from Looe. There are three main villages - Downderry, Hessenford and Seaton + 2 hamlets. Population approx. 1350.

CALC - Carrick District Committee Secretary: Kevin Paul, Penryn TC
