What's On locally in Your Area


The District Committees of each of the 6 Cornish Districts meet on a regular basis to discuss local issues relevant to parishes in the area. These meetings are open to Councillors and all are welcome.


The first Annual Conference of the Cornwall Association of Local Councils will be held on Saturday, November 27th, 2004 at New County Hall in Truro, Cornwall. The Association is delighted to welcome Cllr Brian Kerr, Chairman of the National Association of Local Councils who will be the key note speaker of the event. The theme of the conference will be 'Partnership Working' and emphasis will be placed on the working opportunities open to parish and town councils including partnerships with the County and District Councils.

There will also be workshops on Finance, Charitable Trusts/Village Halls,Training Opportunities and a Questions and Answers Forum.

Finally there will a number of exhibitors at the conference from outside bodies who are involved in issues such as the Waste Review, Changes to the Planning System, as well as a number of trade stands.

The 57th Annual General Meeting of the Cornwall Association of Local Councils will take place on Saturday, November 27th, 2004 at 2pm at New County Hall Truro.


AQA Certificate in Local Council Administration

This is a new professional qualification for Local Council Clerks. It requires candidates to produce a portfolio of evidence to show their knowledge and understanding of Council law and procedures. The Cornwall County Training Partnership (CCTP) is now offering training groups for Clerks interested in achieving the new certificate.


The CCTP will be hosting a training group for clerks starting in Bodmin on Friday, October 1st, 2004. The course will include 8 meetings working through the syllabus and there are a limited number of places still available. The cost will be £200.

The Training Partnership is also able to offer individual training sessions to councils delivered in the parish.
